Sleep was nearly impossible. The mattress was awful, with every spring poking through, the pillows were wafer thin, and the alarm on the door next door kept going off all night. At checkout, the receptionist cared more about his phone call than acknowledging us. No apology or basic courtesy. It felt like guests weren’t a priority. The room was visibly dirty, with actual blood on the pillows and a used plaster stuck to the ceiling. The lifts smelled strongly of smoke and urine, and the whole hotel seemed neglected and poorly maintained. The location felt rough and uninviting, though it was probably the least of the problems. The hotel was incredibly cheap, and I understand you get what you pay for to a point, but there’s still a basic level of cleanliness and upkeep to expect. This fell shockingly short. I wouldn’t stay again under any circumstances.

We had a pleasant stay and paid a good price. The rooms were a good size and comfortable, and the shower had great water pressure. Our TV didn’t work and the bathroom door handle was broken, so a few things need fixing. There’s no disabled access: the lifts stop on midway floors, and you have to take stairs to reach your floor. The hotel is above a job centre, so don’t leave anything in your car.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the burger I ordered was absolutely delicious. The room was clean and tidy, with all the essentials, and the bathroom was nice. The lift and stairs setup was a bit mad, lol. Great view, and there’s an Aldi opposite, which is even better. No complaints from me. It’s a fabulous place to crash for a day or a few, and I’d stay again. Thanks for having me.

The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and the hotel is handy for getting to Liverpool and Manchester. Still, I didn’t feel comfortable during our stay and wouldn’t choose it again. The surrounding area felt neglected, with lots of closed shops. The bed and bathroom were clean, but the bathroom was tiny and had little room for personal items. I also noticed broken parts on the headboard. Our room was small and smelled unpleasant, as did the hallway, so I bought air freshener. The stained, dirty window and curtains weren’t great, and the window wouldn’t open properly. The walls needed cleaning and maintenance. It didn’t really feel like a proper hotel. At the entrance, someone told us reception was on the second floor. When we got there, paper signs taped to the walls pointed the way, which seemed confusing and unprofessional.

Eccles looked rundown, and we didn’t fancy going out there to find food and drink. The receptionist suggested a nearby townland about a 20-minute walk away, to the first pub or restaurant, in Munton, which was quite a nice area. Getting to reception, the restaurant, and the rooms was awkward, especially with large bags. There’s a Jobcentre on the ground floor, and reception is reached by going up to the third floor, then back down the stairs. Staff were pleasant. Of the three rooms we booked, mine was the better one. The other two had more mould on the windows, and their showers were scalding, so those guests had to wash at the sink. We told reception when leaving after our one-night stay, and they assured us they’d sort it out. The hotel had great reviews on Agoda.
