OYO The Leven

The owners and staff were so helpful. They even moved my step Dad to a different room to make things easier with his accessibility needs. They went out of their way to make us comfortable in the bar, both when we stopped for a drink before dinner and while watching the rugby. The team clearly love the property and are working through the rooms to bring them up to scratch. Breakfast isn’t served at the hotel, but there are lots of places to eat in town. It’s right in the centre of Stokesley, and we’d stay again.

The town centre location was a plus, with everything easy to reach on foot. But the pub noise was unbearable. We were right above the bar, with music going past 2, and the room overlooked the pub entrance and smoking area. Someone also threw up under our window after one too many. The room didn’t match the website photos. It hadn’t been modernised and was very dated. The sink was cracked and seemed hazardous, bugs were crawling around the bath, the bathroom blind was shredded, and having the toilet by the window felt risky. There was no staff at reception. Parking was advertised, but there wasn’t any, and the permit zone outside allows only two hours.

The Leven's Christmas dinner arrived at my home piping hot and was delicious, with great value for money. The staff were friendly and the customer service was great. Perfect for Christmas Day 😀👍

Check-in was good, and I liked the location and the rooms, but I barely slept. Staff held a lock-in underneath my room and kept me awake until well past 4am. I needed to be up at 6am for the Great North Run, so that was poor form. I’d planned to book again in November for a group of eight, but now I’m looking at other options.
