The £250 gift voucher from our children was meant to make a special anniversary weekend in Beggars. After a hospital emergency linked to my health issues, we couldn’t make the dates and asked to move them so we could go later. Hotel staff directed us to Hotelgift, who sent us back to Beggars Customer Service because the decision was theirs. Nothing was sorted, the dates couldn’t be changed, and we got no satisfactory response or further communication. They’ve stolen our gift money. Shockingly bad service, totally disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

The room and bathroom were clean and tidy, and the staff were welcoming. Beggars Reach Hotel is set away from city noise, so it’s a peaceful, quiet place to stay. A good choice if you’re after some calm.

The window looked onto filthy concrete and a walkway beside the building, nothing like the photos and shocking for the price. Inside the room, which was supposedly clean, we found someone’s marijuana joint under the window, and my partner had to kill three spiders. We didn’t feel welcome either: no one offered breakfast options, just handed us a room key. When we returned the keys, nobody even said goodbye. There was no interest in us at all.

The building itself is nice, but the stay wasn’t very good. Our room was hot at 27 degrees with no fan, and we could hear noise from other rooms. It wasn’t clean, and there was a spider web inside. After we’d already paid £159 per night, they also wanted to charge extra just to charge the mobility scooter. Breakfast wasn’t ready until 9am, and we waited far too long for coffee.

The rooms are good. The lady travelling with us asked for a disabled room. It had a great walk-in shower, but there was no handrail or chair in it, so it wasn’t suitable for anyone with difficulty standing or walking.
