Swan Revived

The cooked breakfasts were good, the bar was comfortable, and otherwise it was a nice, cosy stay. But there were several things that made it less comfortable. My room was freezing when I arrived, and the bathroom was arctic because its radiator didn’t work. I reported that on the first night, along with the broken lamp over the bed, but neither was fixed. A USB charging point would also have helped, since not everyone carries an adapter for UK plugs. The takeaway continental breakfast offered at checkout sounded lovely, but the box had ham and cheese with no croissant or roll, Weetabix and milk, two pots of fruit and yogurt, but no bowls, cups or spoons, and no drink or juice. How was I meant to eat any of that while travelling at 5am? A filled roll and juice would have been much more welcome. What was the point of offering it like that? That’s why I’ve taken off stars.

Reception moved us quickly to the room next door after we called about the first one, where the bed had pet hair and marks on the pillow, and the shower head wouldn’t stay on its bar so you had to hold it. But the replacement room was freezing. We left the radiator on for more than eight hours while we were out for a long night, and it was still icy when we got back. The shower barely got warm, and the bathroom felt colder than being outside in the frost. I told reception the next day and got a small refund, but I don’t think it was enough. We stayed on New Year’s Eve, so I know it was extremely busy, but after hearing so many good things about this place, I can’t say I had a good experience. I don’t think I’ll return.

Our dog enjoys coming here as much as we do, especially when Dave is working. He’s the supplier of biscuits and cuddles! The Swan Revived has a lovely atmosphere for catching up with friends, and the food is excellent and fairly priced. We’ve stayed several times, most recently last weekend, and it’s always been relaxing and homely. Very dog friendly. We’ll be back in the New Year.

The evening meal was plentiful and well cooked, and breakfast the next morning was cooked perfectly. It kept us going for the five hours we spent walking around Bletchley Park, with no need for lunch. We stayed one night on our way there, and the staff were very helpful. The room was clean and nicely presented, though a little dated. We’d have no hesitation about coming back if we’re in the area.
