The hotel used to be beautiful and full of life before Covid. Then it became accommodation for asylum seekers, and now a management consultancy is running it. These days it feels deserted, like a ghost town. I stopped in for a quick coffee with my young children. A management consultant asked me to move my car from the drop-off area and threatened a parking ticket, even though the hotel was empty, mine was the only car there, and there were no signs about parking restrictions or fines. I was told the GM was watching the CCTV and would issue the ticket. That doesn't seem legally possible. I was clearly there for a short coffee, and the way I was spoken to felt aggressive and intimidating. Their update says the team member was following standard procedures and apologises if they sounded abrupt. It wasn't just abrupt. They talk about respect, but where was the respect in that? At least I wasn't drowned in PowerPoint presentations. Typical management consultants, no idea about the industry and very good at looking busy and efficient.

The location is wonderfully secluded and quiet, just right for a short break away from the city. I stayed three nights in room 211, looking out over a field where sheep grazed in the early morning. It was lovely. The room stayed quiet even on the night there was a function, and I heard nothing once I was inside. My room was clean and the bed was really comfortable. The water pressure wasn't especially strong, but it was fine, and the temperature stayed just right. Breakfast had a nice range of choices. I also had dinner, and the ribeye was cooked exactly how I like it, rare. They hadn't provided a steak knife, but the regular table knife cut through it easily. The staff were so friendly and kind. I was nervous because it was my first time staying in a hotel alone, and they helped put me at ease. They were also happy to answer questions and help with requests. I'll definitely come back in the new year. I've already recommended the hotel to family and friends who travel often, and I'm looking forward to hearing what they think. Thanks for a lovely stay, see you soon! Keep up the great work.

The food was a real bright spot at our wedding weekend. Most of it was great, around 90 percent, with lovely seasoning, crispy potatoes and fresh, good quality breakfast for our guests. Just one dish disappointed us, and the hotel took our feedback graciously. We booked almost every room at Woughton House Hotel and our guests had about five meals provided there. The venue felt warm and cosy, like a home away from home, and had plenty of charm. We had 100 guests, and the size felt just right. It is an old building, so there were a few rough edges, including occasional water pressure issues and warm rooms, but the team was willing to help. The staff were delightful, warm, responsive and keen to do their best. Communication during the event was clear. We booked in October and had more than three different event staff working with us, which was difficult, though things improved a lot over the last five months when we worked with Matthew. Matthew deserves a special mention as events manager, f and b manger, and an all-round excellent egg. He worked with our vision and made things happen, keeping an eye on everything while giving the event his full attention. He went above and beyond, seemed as invested in our wedding as we were, and brought humour too. Our wedding had so many moving parts, but he worked hard to make the day run smoothly. He even made a special wrestling-style announcement, which showed how talented he is. Thank you for being such a joy to work with. There were wonderful and wacky things happening across the weekend, and the team kept finding solutions and accommodating us. Matthew helped make it a beautiful, joyful occasion for us and our guests, with special memories that went more smoothly than we could have imagined. If you're considering this venue for a wedding and Matthew is there, you'll be in good hands.

After travelling for hours, we just wanted to unwind with a drink and some chips. Instead, we ended up crossing the road to a pub because the hotel couldn't serve us. The pub was lovely, but having to go there for a basic snack spoiled our stay. At check-in we went to the bar and asked for chips. A wedding was taking place, and the bar staff were focused on the event, leaving us waiting a long time without anyone acknowledging us. When we tried to order, they said there weren't enough staff to send orders through the kitchen and that starting the fryer would take too long. The manager was rude and made us feel as though we'd caused trouble by asking. The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was good. But the service was a real disappointment, and the staff were unwilling to accommodate us.

The room was lovely, clean and beautiful, and I'll definitely use it again. We only needed it for a mid-afternoon sleep because the car had broken down. But finding someone to give us the keys or serve drinks meant going into the staff kitchen, which was very bad. SHOULD HAVE A MAN ON RECEPTION FOR GUESTS.
