The beer was great, especially the Mistletoe, and the food from the menu was really good. We booked direct with the Turks Head and would advise others to do the same. The pub and our room were exceptionally clean and comfortable, with lots of extra space. I won't say which room, because we'd like to book it again. All the staff and locals were friendly and helpful, and it's a really dog-friendly pub. Rosie 🐕 had a fantastic stay too, apologies again for her! Hope you'll have us back. We could easily have stayed another week to see more of the area. It was a great stay over the festive period, and I wish I could've stayed longer.

Lunch at The Turks Head turned out to be a great choice. The menu had so many tempting options that it took us a while to decide. My wife ordered a starter, but couldn't finish it. I had the 'Dumpling with lean beef mashed potatoes and veg. Absolutely delicious, every bite was a delight. The other three tables, also full of people who'd missed out on Cragside, would probably agree. We'd planned a walk around Cragside, but it was full, so we wandered around Rothbury instead. It seemed like a dying little town, with lots of shops closed. Really good, proper food.

The staff were really friendly and made our family visit feel relaxed, with our two dogs along too. I had the beef & Guinness pie, which was superb, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her mince and dumplings. Excellent food. If I'm up this way again, I'd definitely come back.

We were delighted by the range of roasts and the wonderful vegetarian options. We'd stopped in hoping to find lunch, and the staff were wonderful.
