Raven's Cliff, Motherwell by Marston's Inns

The staff made us feel welcome and were very accommodating. Everything we needed was in the room, which was perfect for our one-night stay, and the beds were so comfortable. Breakfast was brilliant.

The food was very good, and the hotel itself was comfortable, with a good bed and nice pillows. Restaurant service needs better communication and coordination, though. I was left standing while I waited for someone to acknowledge me, and there wasn’t a clear explanation of how to order. The server seemed to walk away while talking, and with my hearing issues I couldn’t make out what she said.

We were touring Scotland and this was our first stop. At £46 for a double, the price was excellent. An accident on the motorway meant we checked in very late, but there was a friendly porter, which was helpful. The room was clean and in good order, pretty much a typical hotel room, and there were plenty of bedside plugs for once. The mattress had a big dip on one side, though, so two people sharing seemed to be sleeping at different levels. There’s plenty of parking and an eatery at the same location that serves breakfast. I couldn’t find a hair dryer, but overall it was definitely good value for money.

Booking was easy, and the staff were kind, polite, and very helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean, there’s free Wi-Fi, and hotel guests get 20% off the evening meal.
