The locals are friendly too, and I’ll definitely return. The new owners and staff were welcoming, friendly and professional. My room was lovely, with a very comfortable bed and thoughtful extras like Molton Brown products, bathrobes and fluffy towels. The cosy bar has a great selection of drinks, and the real fireplace adds to the atmosphere. Breakfast had a nice selection.

The newly refurbished rooms are incredible, very clean and well equipped. Davie, Morag and the team made the stay especially good with their friendliness, hospitality and personal touches. Such a great addition to Alston Moor 🤍🤍

We had an evening meal in the pub at a reasonable price, with a wide choice that included vegetarian and GF dishes. It was an acceptable standard. Breakfast was included, with a full English, cereals, yogurts, fruit and other cooked choices including vegetarian options. Some items had been cooked quite a while earlier, so they weren’t at their best, but were still acceptable. The hotel is well maintained and pretty much as described. Our room was a decent size, very quiet, and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom could do with a refresh at some point, but it was more than adequate and there was nothing to complain about. I stayed two nights with my partner and would happily have stayed longer. This isn’t perfect, but I’ve read some rather unfair reviews. It’s good value in an amazing area, and I’d be happy to stay again.

The breakfast was fantastic the next morning, a generous, well-cooked full English with help-yourself continental choices and coffee. We arrived too late for dinner, but got a warm welcome and help with our luggage. We’d been upgraded to a four-poster room, which was comfortable but quite compact. My wife and I stopped overnight a couple of weeks ago, and were very glad we did. It was our first time taking the scenic A689 route to Scotland, and I expect we’ll use it again. We tried to book again for the return the next weekend, but prices had almost doubled in just a week. I don’t know why.
