Donnington Valley Hotel & Golf Spa

The food was delicious and our deal included an allowance for it, though the drinks were pricey, as you’d expect in a hotel. We had great table service in the spa. The area itself was lovely, but it was the weekend and there were lots of kids there even at 5pm. It was disappointing to see them using the jacuzzi, since many spas have a 16-year age limit for children in it. Robes were free, but there was only one size and it wasn’t big enough for my tall husband. We asked for a larger one, but none were available. I’m 5ft 2 and even on me it wasn’t overly big, so perhaps the single size could be larger. Our stay was lovely, though the wheelchair ramp felt very long and too close to reception, and my husband tripped over it. The lifts could do with an update. There are gorgeous rooms and cosy shared spaces, including a two-storey bar, games room, TV/CHESS room and jigsaw room.

Dinner was high class and well cooked, and the dining decor was stunning. Afterward we had mojito cocktails and champagne, and were very well looked after throughout the evening. The welcome from staff was lovely, check-in was seamless, and the management team communicated excellently and were very helpful. What an amazing night.

A couple of the treatments fell short during our group spa day, although most were really great. I shared the feedback with the manager Nikki, and appreciated how warmly and kindly she listened to our concerns. She was genuinely focused on putting things right, and did so. I left actually relaxed, which meant a lot.

The spa had everything we needed for a relaxing afternoon, and Becky and Kirsty gave us wonderful massages that really hit the spot. Dinner was sublime, beautifully presented, full of flavour and cooked to perfection. The Restaurant Manager/Sommelier was attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely friendly, making our anniversary evening special. From the welcoming team to the spotless hotel, service was consistently good and every staff member made us feel looked after, including the bar staff. Housekeeping left a thoughtful note in our room welcoming us and mentioning our upcoming wedding. We had a wonderful overnight stay at Donnington, left relaxed, and look forward to coming back.
