The room was big and extremely clean, with fluffy towels and bath robes, and the bed was comfortable. I slept very well. There’s a small gym that’s good for three or maybe four people working out at once. The hotel is centrally located, with lots of dining choices and plenty of pubs nearby. When I arrived, a friendly, polite woman had my room key ready and quickly recommended local places to eat, which was nice since I was new to the area.

We had a beautifully presented meal at NP20 Kitchen & Bar, along with drinks. We chose the Steak deal for two, cooked perfectly by Chef Nic, and all the sides were great too: garlic bread, broccoli, onion rings and salad. I stayed one night at the Mercure hotel Newport. It’s a lovely modern hotel, and our gorgeous room on the 13th floor had a great city view.

The restaurant staff were amazing, really enthusiastic, and explained the dishes well. Their recommendations were great too. The food was good for hotel food, though I personally wouldn’t order the peppercorn sauce again. Terry the manager is an absolute legend. I’d stayed at the Mercure Newport the week before and had a great experience with a river-view room. When I returned the next week, the hotel was fully booked, but I asked for the river view again and Terry and Emma managed to make it happen.

The views from the higher floors are fantastic, and the hotel sits right in the centre of Newport. There’s a reasonably priced car park just opposite. The hotel feels brand new, and the room and public areas were spotless. All the staff were professional and welcoming. Lynsey at the hotel bar deserves a special mention for going above and beyond to look after us. An excellent stay in a lovely hotel. Thank you!

I’ve stayed here both times I’ve been to Newport, and I’d definitely recommend it. It’s right in the middle of the city, close to shops and restaurants. The room was clean and appropriately styled, and the service was top notch, especially from the dining team. It’s made me look out for their hotels wherever I travel.
