One Holyrood

The GF apartment was roomy and comfortable, with everything we needed, including a TV, fridge, freezer and WM. Karen, the Hostess, was incredibly helpful, and breakfast was great. It’s right opposite the arts centre and only a three-minute walk to central Newport. The garden looked lovely, though the weather wasn’t good enough for us to enjoy it.

I’ve been coming back to One Holyrood since 2019 and have probably stayed in every room by now. It’s a great base for business, holidays or getting out around the island, including cycling trips, which I’ve done a few times. This visit I had room 19 in the new extension, finished to a really high standard. Karen and the team are always welcoming, the service is great and there’s a personal touch. A real asset to the island.

My husband and I come back to this charming hotel every time we visit Newport. The included breakfast is delicious, especially the English Breakfast, and when the weather cooperates, the back garden is a lovely spot for coffee and cake. Rooms feel cozy and are decorated sweetly, with interesting art around the hotel adding character. We’re here to see family rather than as typical tourists, and the central location makes it easy to explore nearby antique jewellery stores, restaurants and historic pubs. Looking forward to coming back.

My friend and her sister both have coeliac disease and must avoid gluten. She made their condition clear, but they were served teacakes that weren’t gluten free, and both became violently ill after getting home. When she recently returned to Holyrood to explain what happened to senior staff, they apologised and said they would update staff about allergy safety and taking care to serve the right cakes. We stayed for tea and cake, but my friend was too scared to eat anything. No complimentary drink was offered given what she’d experienced, and I’m not impressed with how it was handled.
