Premier Inn Newquay - A30/Fraddon

We slept well and the hotel was lovely and quiet, with plenty of parking. There are lots of nearby breakfast places: we skipped the pub next door because the M&S cafe opposite did a fantastic breakfast. There's also Macdonalds and a Starbucks, and Bodmin is 10-15 minutes away by car with plenty of cafes. Staff at reception were welcoming, especially the dark-haired guy with a beard, who was always greeting us, saying goodbye, and asking how our day had been. We had a good stay and would recommend it. It's an older Premier Inn, a bit tired in places and without many modern features, but the price reflects that and we just needed a base for a few nights. Each day we asked for room cleaning and got fresh towels, but sometimes the bins were emptied and sometimes they weren't. We didn't get fresh sheets or mugs or any replenishment of tea and coffee, so it wasn't clear what the cleaning actually included.

The weekend breakfast was awesome, and the bed was massive and very comfortable. The room had everything you could need for a weekend away and was nice. But I was disappointed by the cleanliness: the bed was filthy under the sheet and topper, and the toilet hadn't been properly cleaned in a very long time. That definitely needs improving.

The location is good, the service was okay, and there was plenty of free parking. But the noise through the night was awful, as if the walls were made of paper, and we barely slept. The WiFi was very slow, which felt possibly deliberate since they try to sell you “premium WiFi”. We wrote to the hotel about it all and got no reply. Disappointing.

We picked this place because it was near an event, and although we're regular visitors to Newquay, we wouldn't stay here again after this experience. We've generally had good stays at Premier Inns elsewhere, but this one was disappointing. A few staff mentioned they were short-staffed for the weekend, which must have been hard, but basic guest needs shouldn't feel like such a struggle. The reception team were friendly, though clearly under pressure. Our room had an unpleasant smell, only one towel, and no spare pillows. I politely raised it with a staff member in the corridor. She said the pillows were on top of the wardrobe; when I said I'd looked and they weren't there, she just shrugged. Thankfully another receptionist sorted it out later that evening. The room was uncomfortably hot even with the fan on, so we left the window open and had a very noisy night because of traffic from the A30. On the positive side, the staff at the adjoining restaurant were all friendly and accommodating, and we ate there for both dinner and breakfast.
