The Rock Inn

We've been back to The Rock Inn many times over the past 30 years, and it never disappoints. This time we came with our family, a party of nine, for a big birthday celebration. The service was superb, especially Sharon and Rosie, and the food was exceptional, so thanks to the chef and kitchen team. The wines were great without crazy prices. Our rooms were clean and very warm, which we appreciated in the windy weather. Thoroughly recommend!

For visitors from the US, this lovely inn can be a bit hard to find. It's on a lane, so I'd recommend a compact rental car, since parking and navigating the lanes can be challenging. The staff were extremely helpful and let us check in early. Our room was large and elegant. The English breakfasts were outstanding, and the local dairy products made everything taste wonderful. We ordered a two-course dinner and were very happy with it: the prime rib and steaks were amazing. The best surprise was the chocolate dessert, the best I've ever had. The portions were small, but meant to be savoured. We enjoyed our stay.

Rosie was such a friendly host, and the food was lovely and nicely presented. The interior is cosy and old fashioned. My only suggestion would be bigger portions, since they were very small and I wouldn't have been full with a main on its own.

I came for lunch and was greeted with a smile, then shown to a table of my choice. The staff talked me through the menu and dishes, and were attentive and easy to talk to. The Tempura Cauliflower starter was crisp with a light batter, and the curried mayo went perfectly with it. After that, the confit pork belly had wonderful crackling and tasty vegetables, and the orange parfait was a lovely end to lunch. The Rock Inn has warm, cosy decor, friendly staff and fresh, tasty food. It's in a great location, and I plan to come back after a hike. Thanks to the staff for making the place so good. Well worth a visit.
