The location is convenient, and it was easy to find from the train station. The access codes for all the doors worked perfectly. We only needed somewhere to get ready and sleep while meeting friends for one night, and we’re not particularly fussy, but I wouldn’t stay again. The room, Room 4 on the first floor, had a strong sewage smell, seemingly from the bathroom drains. It was already noticeable on entering the building and got worse when we opened the room. We even ran the hot shower to try to cover it. The bathroom was dirty and run down, and the shower cubicle was loose enough to nearly tip when we tried to adjust it. We found hair under the bed covers, then spotted small bugs in the beds later that night. By about 2am, we felt we had little choice but to stay and try to sleep. The mattresses were extremely poor quality. The towels looked clean but smelled unpleasant, and the small fridge, though potentially useful, was dirty and noisy enough to keep a light sleeper awake. The property is badly run down and maintained, and the cleaning standards are clearly inadequate.

I booked a studio with a kitchenette for five nights last September and was given Room 4. Lisa Bell’s review was spot on, if anything, she was generous with two stars. I checked out after two nights and got no joy from management when I asked for a refund, though they did respond to my email. Talking to the staff was hopeless. I wasn’t going to spend my last three nights in the UK at the Riverside Hotel. The room smelled, but traffic noise made it too loud to leave the window open. The kettle leaked badly, and when first turned on, hot water came through the cold tap, possibly because of the laundry plumbing next door. There was no tea towel, and the dish sponge was disgusting. The microwave was filthy, and management blamed me for it when I contacted them. I couldn’t bring myself to eat in the room, let alone cook.

We booked for two nights, but didn’t stay ten minutes. The room we were shown was like a dungeon, with a huge bed crammed into a single room and barely enough space to get in, even though we’d upgraded. The next room had a nice river view, but the bed was awful, and the room was damp, grubby, and humid. A tumble dryer was running right beside it. When we asked where to plug in the kettle, a staff member said they could get up there, above the wardrobe 🤦. The bedside lamp was basically an on-off flashlight, and extension cables were everywhere, a definite fire hazard. They offered us another room, which seemed odd after saying they were fully booked. We also had to pay £10 extra because we arrived 15 minutes early, plus £10 a day for parking on a side street. I’ve never left a bad review before, but people should know. Avoid this place. You can get a hotel for what they’re charging.

The staff were lovely and helpful, and the place was very clean. The location is convenient, right by the train station, with everything you need nearby. This was the best hotel I stayed in in Norwich. Highly recommend!
