The service was the best part. The woman at the front in black glasses and the bartender with a man bun were polite and professional. The Viking-looking staff member also spotted the problem with the pork belly and immediately offered a refund. I would come back for a drink, but not for food. We tried pork bites, garlic ciabatta with cheese and halloumi fries. The pork was tough and inedible. The cheesy garlic bread was swimming in butter and had no garlic flavour, so that was inedible too. The halloumi wasn't bad, but the batter was soft and undercooked. I didn't ask for a refund on the bread because it felt embarrassing to raise yet another food problem. At these prices, basic starters should come out right. The kitchen needs a change.

The carvery was lovely, and the service was fantastic. We had glorious weather on 24/5/26, with a singer outside by the river. It made us feel as though we were abroad. Such a lovely little pub and eatery, we'll definitely return. 😊 🌞
We didn't get to eat, though the carvery looked and smelled amazing, so we'll come back for a meal even if just for the day. It was our first visit to the area and hotel, and we stayed over the weekend. The room was spotless and beautiful, with plenty of space and a comfortable, good-sized bed. The bathroom was spacious and very clean too. Staff were fantastic, welcoming and pleasant, and gave us directions when we asked. 5/5.
The location is really convenient, right by the motorway junction, and the pub next door makes it easy to get food and a couple of drinks. Breakfast was a highlight: hot, well stocked and topped up in small batches so it stayed fresh. They also put balloons in our room for my partner's 40th birthday, which was a thoughtful touch. The hotel itself was fine, but at £100 a night I expected a clear step up from a Premier Inn or Holiday Inn. Stains across the carpets and marks on the chair upholstery made the room unpleasant. I didn't feel comfortable going barefoot or sitting on the chair. Once the curtains were closed, the lighting was so dim that getting ready was difficult. The carpets need a proper deep clean or replacement, and the upholstery needs attention, to make the price feel justified.
Jane was kind to us and our two dogs, offering them the end of the beef carvery joint, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks again, Jane. The restaurant has a delicious range of food and a fantastic carvery. The bedrooms are quite large and well presented, and the hotel is well placed in north Manchester for the city centre and nearby smaller towns. It was our first time at the Boat and Horses in chadderton, manchester.
