The food at The Bear and Ragged Staff was beautifully presented and cooked with care. The service was friendly and attentive, and the timing worked well even though I was there for a quick work meal rather than a long occasion. Prices are on the high side, though that seems pretty normal these days. The portion, flavour and experience made it feel like fair value for the quality. A dependable place I'd be glad to return to.

We took a one-night break to rest after the busy festive period, and the service was friendly and hospitable the whole time. Room 5 was warm, clean, cosy and welcoming, and we slept really well. The bathroom was spacious, with good shower pressure and plenty of hot water. We also made use of the free espresso machine and teas. We had lunch, dinner and our prepaid breakfast there. Everything we ate was delicious and beautifully presented. Looking forward to coming back :)

This old-fashioned Inn really does still have old-fashioned hospitality. We came as a family group of six adults and had three double rooms for one night. Two rooms had heating issues, which manager John had told us about in advance. He and the team did everything they could to make the rest of our stay memorable, for all the right reasons. The rooms were spacious and smartly presented, with a modern take on Victorian style. Food was fresh and amazing for the most part, with a good range of vegetarian dishes. I have IBS and follow a low fodmap diet, which most menus don't handle well, but the team took it in stride. They spoke with the chef and communicated directly with me. Staff knew what was in the dishes, and checked whenever they weren't sure. The one letdown was the turkey on the festive menu, which was very dry. The drinks were good, the fireplace was roaring, and we were welcomed in a cosy, homely way despite having our dog with us. Service was the most attentive I've had in a long time. Highly recommend a visit.

We had a spacious, cosy room, and the bathroom was a good size for a pub room, clean, modern and laid out well. The little extras like tea, coffee, hot chocolate and bottled water were thoughtful. It would be nice if the TVs connected to the internet for streaming. The food was excellent, and the breakfasts were delicious. The pub was a lovely place for a drink after exploring, and the staff were friendly and genuinely welcoming. The Bear and Ragged Staff has plenty of character, with beautiful old architecture and a warm pub atmosphere. It's just outside Oxford. A car is definitely the easiest way to get here. Oxford Park & Ride is an easy 10-minute drive, but public transport from the inn can be tricky, especially with the current road closure near the train station. We'd happily stay again and recommend it for a comfortable, characterful break near Oxford.

We held a big family function in this beautiful building. It's incredibly well kept and full of character and charm. Even with the difficult circumstances that brought us there, the staff were phenomenal, so patient and ready to do anything they could for us. If I lived closer, I'd visit regularly.
