The Pointer

The English breakfast was the best I’ve had in the 13 years I’ve lived in the UK, easily 10 out of 10. I was there for a few days with a friend from Sweden on his first UK trip, and we decided to stop in for breakfast. The place was clean, peaceful and welcoming, with a beautiful atmosphere. Every staff member was warm and professional, and the service was impeccable. We felt genuinely looked after. Prices for two were very reasonable and great value for the quality. Wonderful food and people in a fantastic place. We’ll be back, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

The relaxed timing between courses was just right. We had rarebit and crispy squid to start, both generous portions and absolutely delicious, followed by faultless prawn & chorizo spaghetti and fish cakes. Even when it got busy, the staff stayed friendly, welcoming and attentive. A fantastic hidden gem of a local pub, and we’ll definitely return next time we’re in the area.

We were worried we might find The Pointer empty, but it was packed and had a lovely feel to it. Staff were eating with their families, and there were dogs in Christmas jumpers. It was perfect. We had the festive menu, and the pate, Ox cheek and festive trifle are the things to order if you haven’t been yet. The Hugo Spritzs were lovely and went down easily. A lovely pub with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food. There’s also a fantastic choice of cooked breakfast dishes.
