The location puts you right in central Oxford, and the Sheldonian Theatre is only a very short walk away, ideal for graduations. The reception man was friendly and helpful, and let us check in early. I liked this quirky, old-fashioned hotel, with its wooden beams and beautifully tiled Victorian bathrooms. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable, with everything we needed, including complimentary hot chocolate that went down very well. The wooden furniture and artistic lamps were lovely. Tall people might not like it here, but if you're after a comfortable, slightly quirky place in a perfect spot, this could suit you.

The location was central, but the room didn't match the description or photos at all. There was a dirty sink in the corner that smelled of sewage, and the shared shower was broken. I tried to reach someone and was completely ignored and treated as if I didn't matter as a paying customer. Terrible service, wouldn't recommend.

The location is good, but seriously, stay somewhere else. The room smelled terrible, and there was a sink oddly placed on the carpet. Mould covered the windows and the smell of it was awful. The ceilings and walls were cracked and flaking to the touch, and the floor literally slanted at a 45-degree angle. The building being old is no excuse; it's not livable. Trust me, go elsewhere.

Really pleasant stay, with beautiful rooms and probably the best location for everything in Oxford.

We had a great time here, and the kids loved it. If we come back to Oxford, this is where we want to stay again. It's full of charm, in a great location, and lets you stay in a 400-year-old house. They're also a social business supporting Student Hubs, an organisation that aims to support students. Just be clear about what you're booking. This is not a hotel in the usual sense. We stayed three nights and didn't see anyone working there. Nobody changed the towels or emptied the bins, and water and tea supplies weren't replenished. There was no breakfast. The bathroom fan didn't work, leaving the room very damp after a quick shower. The shower was quirky, workers were loud just centimetres from our room, the walls were uneven and the floor squeaky. If you expect a standard hotel stay, it will all seem rather shitty. You also need to be able to manage steps and stairs that aren't built to modern standards. We had the Foundry and Bastion rooms, both en-suite, although Bastion had only a bathtub and no shower.
