The Old Custom House

We enjoyed a very nice Sunday roast, and breakfast had plenty of varied choices. The full breakfast was one of the best we’ve ever had. Chelsea and her Mum looked after us at breakfast each morning, and they were lovely. All the staff were super helpful and friendly. It’s our second stay, and we had a wonderful three-night break in a fabulous location, with comfortable, quiet rooms that were perfect for a romantic getaway. Hoping to book a third visit before the hotel closes for a refurb in November.

We’re already looking forward to returning, because of the way this place is run. In a short time, every staff member made us feel they were making sure our stay was amazing, and it really was. Ellie and her team were so friendly and went above and beyond to make it memorable. The food was amazing, and Nick, the team leader in the restaurant, made both of our meals there first class. Our bright, airy room had everything we needed, a very comfortable bed and an excellent harbour view. It was such a pleasure to celebrate a special birthday there. Thank you!

We’ve stayed here before and will come again. The room had two large harbour-facing windows, with plenty of space, a large bed, sofa and coffee table, wardrobe and dressing table. The separate bathroom was warm and spacious, with a shower, wash basin and toilet. The bar had a good range of draught beers and ciders, plus food if you wanted it. There’s also a restaurant and a separate breakfast restaurant, with a good choice of cooked breakfasts. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There was some noise from the bar below until 2300, which was a minor irritation, though I still fell asleep. The paying car park is right opposite, via RingGo.

The location was wonderful and the staff were fantastic. Breakfast was really delicious, and the bar felt relaxed and cosy in the evening, with happy, helpful staff. Room 10, with the bay window overlooking the harbour, was spotless and had everything I needed, including lovely toiletries, but it looked a little tired and could have used a lick of paint. The main problem was the noise from room 11 next door, which made the stay pretty miserable. On the first night I could hear every word and their TV was very loud and on quite late. I mentioned it at reception and they apologised, but didn’t ask if I wanted to change rooms. The next night the neighbours were quieter, so their voices were more bearable, but I could still hear them chatting and the TV was so noisy I could tell what they were watching. I don’t think they were especially loud, just that the soundproofing is poor. I came hoping to relax for a few days and ended up stressed by the noise. Such a shame in a lovely location, because the rooms were a real disappointment.
