Queensgate Hotel

SCAM ALERT!!!! I booked one night for a work trip with my dog, using the site's dog filter. When we arrived, they wouldn't even let me into reception with him, so I had to leave him in the car. They said dogs weren't allowed and were rude when I showed them the booking. I asked them to cancel it since the listing had said the hotel was dog friendly, but they refused. I had to cancel myself and got charged the full room price instead of a cancellation fee. Then they fined me for leaving my car in the hotel parking for 15 minutes. The notice came about a month later, already at final reminder before debt recovery, so I ended up paying £100 on top.

The English breakfast was the letdown for us at £9 each. The mushrooms and hash browns were cold, and much of the meal seemed reheated rather than freshly cooked, though the sausage and bacon were fresh and nice. The rooms themselves are comfortable and quaint, and the bathroom was well stocked, with both a tub and shower in ours. There's a small car park, enough for maybe 10 or 12 vehicles but not all the guests. It's dog friendly, which is handy for people travelling with pets. I'd rate it 7 out of 10.

The staff member was very nice, but there was only one person on in the evening, cooking for guests and running reception too. The carpet was really dirty, the heating in the room hadn't been turned on, and the hot water in the bathroom ran out after two minutes.

The shower and bed were both excellent, but the room's broken window let cold air in the whole time. I was there for two nights while working nearby. The car park is small, and the later you arrive, the less chance you'll get a space. It was a cheap option, so you get what you pay for, but I won't be back. It's meant to be a three-star hotel, though I'd put it closer to two.
