The sourdough school was such good fun, and we went home smiling with lovely memories, a new friend, freshly baked bread and our own baby Pascal starter. Pascal was a perfect host from the moment we arrived, and his family are absolutely adorable. We’d read the reviews and the Times article, so our expectations were high, but Cawthorne House lived up to them. We also loved the extra touches and the delicious breakfasts, especially Pascal’s freshly baked sourdough. Thank you, Pascal and family, for a memorable weekend.

The railway station was just five minutes away, which worked perfectly for our railway experience, and there are plenty of places to eat. Pascal can point you to the best spots. We especially recommend the Indian up the road, though it gets busy. Our two-night stay in mid-October was lovely. Pascal gave us a warm welcome, showed us to a wonderful room, then brought complimentary fizz and canapés. His homemade sourdough at breakfast was still warm and absolutely delicious, and you can take a lesson with him too. Thanks to Pascal and his family for such a lovely stay. I’m sure we’ll return. Cawthorne House was just right for our visit to Dalby Forest, and Pickering itself is a lovely town. We had a great meal at The Black Swan and a couple of glasses of real ale at The Sun. Pascal was a wonderful host, and the little extras were lovely: homemade biscuits, bubbly and canapés when we arrived. The place was very clean and tidy, breakfast was delicious with fresh food, and we loved the homemade sourdough. We’ll stay longer next time. Thank you!

There were plenty of places to eat and lots of interesting spots nearby, and Pascal couldn’t have done more to help us. The breakfasts were out of this world. We’d certainly come again.

The sourdough class was interesting, and while the dough rested we made canapés. Pascal prepared wonderful sandwiches with his own loaves, and we drank plenty of tea. Fizz was available, but tea was just right for me. After a very good night’s sleep, I had a fabulous breakfast while my loaf baked, then took it home still warm. I felt welcome as soon as I arrived at Cawthorne House. My room was large and comfortable, with a jar of homemade cookies that I happily ate every one of. I can wholeheartedly recommend the place. Treat yourself, you won’t regret it.
