Lanelay Hall Hotel & Spa

The staff were wonderful, and the whole place has a cosier feel than other spa resorts we’ve visited, including Celtic Manor and Vale. We couldn’t think of a thing that needed improving. The rooms were fabulous, as were the cocktails and bar service. Both pools, outside and inside, were amazing, and the restaurant, food and breakfast were all wonderful too.

The restaurant really made the night. Ben went above and beyond, and the food was delicious. We’d highly recommend the Porterhouse sharing platter. Brandon served brilliant drinks and had such good customer service that we felt very welcome. The spa treatment was amazing, and the pool was clean and not too crowded. Service was exemplary from beginning to end. My partner gave me this stay as a birthday treat, and we’ll definitely return. We had a fantastic time.

The rooms were very spacious, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, and breakfast was fantastic with loads to choose from. The woman serving breakfast was so lovely and helpful, which made up for some of our earlier experience. We did enjoy our stay, but probably won’t return because the spa pricing felt unfair, especially as that’s the main thing we look for in a spa hotel or wellness centre. There’s just one indoor pool, and it was barely warm, plus one sauna. You can only use them for a few hours in the morning, 7-10am, and again from 5-10pm. To use the small heated outdoor pool, which is more like a hot tub, you have to pay £25 per person for just one hour, 5-6pm. Several other guests told us they felt ripped off too, and I think the price is ridiculous. Something needs to change. One of the main spa receptionists also spoke to us in a very passive aggressive way. I’ve seen other reviews mention this before. And getting a taxi or Uber to or from Cardiff centre seems nearly impossible if you don’t have a car.

Had a lovely visit and a full body massage at the spa, which was amazing. Just one small gripe, there weren’t enough loungers or seats. We were lucky to get one, but the weather was too poor to use the outdoor area.
