We found the rates very good and would recommend it as a base for a stay on Skye. It’s close to Portree’s centre, with convenient on-site parking and an easy walk into town. The rooms were clean and recently updated, though not especially luxurious. There’s also a great look out over the well-known row of colourful houses.

Room 3 was nicer than I’d expected, and the check-in was straightforward. You’re only about a minute from the restaurants. The bathroom felt fairly roomy, while the bed was fine for one person. Its little window looks onto a brick wall, so the pier view isn’t much, though I still liked having a window. Even during the big storm that hit Portree this week, the closed window kept the room nearly silent. The bedside table and drawers seemed a bit dated, but that didn’t bother me.
It’s in a handy spot near a supermarket, but be prepared to carry your bags upstairs: there’s no lift, and we had to take ours to the second floor. We used the self check-in and check-out. The rooms felt cold even with a heater, possibly because the Highlands weather was unusually cold. Probably suits people travelling light.
From my room at the front of the property, I had a lovely view over the loch. It’s also well placed for getting into central Portree easily.
We were pleased with our stay at Coolin Views Guest house. Room #4 faced the harbour, was lovely, and felt bigger than we’d expected. There was enough space for my daughter and me, and the bed was comfortable and roomy for both of us. The updated bathroom had the basic things we needed, and the room came with shortbread, tea, instant coffee, mugs and a kettle. It was easy to explore the Isle of Skye from here, and town was a quick walk for groceries, coffee, shops and restaurants. Parking is limited, but we got a space on both nights, even on a busy weekend. The room felt pricey, though it was Easter weekend and still one of the cheapest options. We appreciated being able to check ourselves in and out after arriving late.
