Kelly really made this place special for us. We mentioned that we’re looking for somewhere to stay regularly when visiting our son, and she couldn’t have been more helpful. She was warm, caring, professional and empathetic. I believe staff make a place, and Kelly absolutely does. I’d booked a flexible rate at first, then switched to non-refundable once we’d confirmed our plans with our son. I made a small booking mistake and couldn’t find a Premier Plus room online, so I phoned the hotel. Cancelled bookings can take a while to show up in the system, but Kelly patiently explained it all, helped me book the right room and sorted everything out without fuss. Our ground-floor Premier Plus room was faultless, spotlessly clean, well presented and so comfortable. Everything felt considered and cared for. When we came back from a Chinese dinner, the receptionist on duty that evening was lovely too. I didn’t catch her name, but she was polite, smart, well presented and welcoming. It’s nice to see a team that takes pride in their work. We’ve tried several hotels in the area, and this stay stood out. Five stars from Mike and me. We’ll absolutely be back.

The local staff were excellent. Reception arranged a refund for the breakfast we’d booked months earlier, and the hotel and rooms were spotless and in excellent condition. The location is excellent too. Well done to the cleaning team. I stayed on 26 April. Management must have known for some time that the Roebuck was closing, but made no alternative arrangements, such as working with nearby restaurants or providing breakfast boxes like Travelodge does. Very poor customer support from Whitbread Management.

Sarah on Reception was especially friendly, and all the staff were super welcoming. The location and facilities are great, and the rooms are spacious with a wonderfully comfortable bed. There are blackout curtains and a bathroom night light if you need one. The bathroom itself is roomy, with a gorgeous shower, and toiletries plus tea and coffee facilities are provided. The Roebuck pub next door is lovely too, with great food and friendly staff. I’ll definitely be back!

John was exceptional and a credit to the Whitbread Group. One receptionist, though, was argumentative and needs retraining. Breakfast isn’t provided at Christmas, and the room heater was broken. They supplied an oil-filled replacement, which was adequate. The free Wi-Fi was painfully slow at 2 Mb/s. Avoid staying over public holidays if you want breakfast.

This was our second stay. The hotel has been recently refurbished and is lovely, with a quiet rural setting, canal walks and facilities nearby, while still being close to the M6. There’s an issue coming up that anyone considering this location soon should know about. The attached pub, Roebuck, is due to close permanently in two weeks. Its staff are being moved to other GK pubs or leaving their jobs. The Premier Inn staff don’t yet know what will happen next. Unless PI takes over the pub or another buyer comes along, they won’t be able to provide the on-site breakfasts currently advertised. That isn’t PI’s fault, but it should be taken into account.
