Best Western Roundabout

The room was set apart from the main building on the ground floor, which gave me some privacy and access to the garden. I was there for a couple of nights on business and had a comfortable Superior room with nice decor, including wood beams and a big bath. The staff were polite and welcoming. I’d stay again.

We liked the Wednesday carvery enough to come back on Sunday, and both meals were excellent. The selection was fresh and cooked just right, and the way they invite each table up one at a time kept everything relaxed. Roundabout Hotel Carvery has a cosy, welcoming feel, and the chef was friendly and clearly enthusiastic about his work. Thanks for two lovely meals. Highly recommended! 👏🍽️

A car is useful if you want to explore the area, though the hotel is in a pleasant spot. The food was good, but the portions felt overwhelming, as they do in so many restaurants. Breakfast runs from 7 to 9am, and clearing started exactly at 9. My room was outside the main building, and at 8am it was only 14 degrees inside while it was minus 4 outside. Despite the unusual weather, there was no extra heating plan. Reception was often unattended. The hotel is pleasant and has a nice log fire, though the decor is a little tired.

The Roundabout’s Sunday carvery began in November, and they’ve added Wednesdays as well. I went with friends, and the staff were especially considerate and helpful with the disabled members of our group. We’ve tried a few local pubs together, but this one was far better. The food was hot, fresh, tasty, beautifully cooked, and the meat was tender. I was glad to get proper roast potatoes instead of fried ones, along with a good range of vegetables, including lovely roast parsnips and what I think was mashed swede with sweet potato. They also served stuffing, even though other places have told me there’s no demand for it. The meal was affordable for people on a limited budget, and we’ll definitely go again.
