The restaurant next door had a nice atmosphere, and although a long list of items was out of stock, the meal I got was good. Breakfast was poor: I was told fried egg was the only option, and it arrived undercooked, as did the hash brown. The shower was rubbish too, as seems usual at Premier Inn. Water got past the glass screen and flooded the bathroom floor. I like sleeping with the window open all year and prefer a cold room, but these windows don’t open. There’s a patronising sticker claiming a steady supply of fresh air makes that unnecessary, which wasn’t true. It was very hot at night, there was no air conditioning, and the heating control wouldn’t go below 19 degrees.

The room was basic and cold, and my mattress dug into my side. The car park was nearly empty, which was nice, but very poorly lit. You have to register your car at the machine in reception, which was staffed. I asked reception to have the room cleaned. The cleaner only made the beds and left fresh towels on one, without making up the sofa bed. The bins weren’t emptied either. I was told to leave paper and plastic by the bin, but that was left there too, so I emptied it myself. The locked toilet roll holder had a nearly empty roll on top, and I had to ask for more. I had no sign to hang on the door. The hair dryer took ages to dry my hair. Breakfast was freezing and dinner wasn’t much better. Very basic.

The hotel is fairly cheap and in a useful location, but the Wi-Fi barely worked and kept dropping out. Twice, the TV switched itself on in the middle of the night, and I couldn’t even turn it off at the wall. Very disappointing, and I’m not sure I’d stay again.

I spent two weeks here for a training course, and the longer I stayed, the more the hotel’s tired condition showed. The corridors had a persistent musty, mouldy smell. My room was dusty and clearly needed a proper hoover, so it didn’t feel as clean as it should. Outside the restaurant there was litter and overgrown bushes, making the place look neglected. The Wi-Fi was practically unusable for most of my stay, a real problem while travelling for work. The TV also came on by itself during the night more than once, which was strange and disruptive. Staff were generally polite, but the state of the hotel let it down. Not the Premier Inn standard I’d expect, especially for a longer stay.
