San Clu Hotel

The staff were very good, but the food was so poor that this was our first and last visit. Two of us ordered chicken pie, which looked like cheap canned chicken soup poured into a bowl with puff pastry on top. My wife’s fish and chips looked and tasted as though it had been kept warm without being heated through.

The room could have been cleaner, with a few hairs in the bed and stains on the carpet, but we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. The hotel is in a great location, the staff were super friendly, and the included breakfast was nice. Having air-conditioning in the room was great when we visited in June.

We compared prices with Travelodge and this turned out cheaper, especially booking direct on the hotel website rather than booking.com. The clean, spacious room had fabulous views. We ate in the bar during a fantastic Elton John tribute; I had biriani with melt-in-the-mouth lamb, and my partner had Korean chicken and gammon. We ended up staying for Sunday lunch too, and it was excellent. Hidden gem, we’ll definitely stay again.

We didn’t stay overnight, just used the restaurant and bar. The food was good, service was good, and the staff were friendly and professional. It’s in a prime position.
