The Market House

Kasha was brilliant about accommodating our late check-in at 10pm. She also makes an amazing old fashioned. My favourite person in Reading.

We had a brilliant evening on the Market House rooftop bar & terrace for my partner's 30th birthday with two of his close friends. The covered roof and outdoor heaters meant we could enjoy the space and stay dry, even if it was cold, wet or windy. It's a lovely spot for a big party. Makana made the whole thing easy, answering my questions and putting me at ease from the planning stage through to the party. She was calm, great at her job and gave us exceptional service. Abi and Léo were just as attentive behind the private bar, serving everyone quickly and helping me a lot on the night. I'd happily get in touch with the Market House again if I plan another event. The staff and venue were fantastic.

We arrived on time for our 7:30 pm dinner booking and were told my daughter, who is under 18, could only stay for 30 minutes. That condition was buried near the end of the booking confirmation in very small print, along with other terms. I doubt many people read every condition, so others could get caught out too. It would help if the booking process asked whether any guests are under 18 and then showed the relevant message. Our evening was spoiled.

The baby guinness shots went down a little too easily, and they weren't much help when we tried ping pong. One of the doormen even tried to teach us, but we were rubbish and nearly injured him. It was a great night out with our group at Market house. The bar staff were efficient and professional, and the door staff helped make the evening really enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend the shots, just maybe not before ping pong.
