The staff were friendly, and there’s a phone number to call overnight, though someone is only on duty while the bar is open. The room itself was filthy and run down. Cups weren’t replaced until day three, bins weren’t emptied daily, and the wall behind the bed was marked with what looked like greasy head stains. The furniture was falling apart, with drawers that either wouldn’t open or wouldn’t shut. The bedding was clean, at least. The shower room was so bad that I went out to buy flip flops and disinfectant. It didn’t appear to be cleaned during my stay, and I’d question whether it got more than a quick wipe at any other time. The shower was caked in soap scum, held together with sealant, and still leaked onto the floor. I ended up using it only to wash my hair. On the fourth day I found a maggot in it, which I photographed and named “Brian”. The drain was blocked too. I’ve told my work not to book here again. I can’t recommend this place.

The location is great, but I wouldn’t book here again. Once the smell of fresh bleach wore off, the bathroom smelled of stale urine, the bedroom of damp, and a little cupboard was so musty I wouldn’t put anything in it. At first it seemed basic but clean enough. Then I found there were no towels in the room, so I had to go to the main building to get some, and there were no sugar sachets for the tea and coffee. Someone knocked at 10am on our first day to ask if we needed anything, which felt stressful rather than helpful when I’d just got out of the shower and was wearing a towel. The fire alarm in our room went off and nobody was on site to stop it. After more than 15 minutes of the siren, we were driven out into heavy rain. Someone arrived from off site just as we were leaving. I can’t wait to get home and boil-wash all my clothes from this trip.

The woman at the pub who welcomed me was the one redeeming part of the stay. The small car park was full, so I parked on a nearby residential street and hauled my luggage up three narrow flights of stairs. There seem to be two kinds of rooms here: newer ones in the courtyard and older ones upstairs in the pub. The website photos definitely show the newer rooms. Mine was in the pub, tired and badly decorated, with poor furniture. There was no chair or dressing table, and the window wouldn’t stay open. In August the room was hot and stuffy at night. There wasn’t a water glass, the toilet seat wobbled, and although someone emptied the bin, they didn’t leave clean mugs. At £135 a night, it was far too expensive for what I got. If you have to stay, check that you’re booking a courtyard room. I won’t be back or recommend it.

H4. Sam looked after us well on Tuesday evening, thanks. The Chilli 🌶 🍟 and Garlic bread went down a treat. Looking forward to coming back on 17th March. 🙂 Steve/Busby.

The room was okay apart from the bed and toiletries. It was advertised as a double, but it wasn’t, and the shower gel and hand wash had already been used. At £300 for New Year, the price was extortionate.
