The burger and chips at Royal Oak were delicious. The burger was juicy, full of flavour and cooked just right, while the chips had a crisp outside and fluffy middle. It was a welcoming place, with the fire on and the TV playing. A young girl with glasses served us; she was friendly and attentive, and nothing felt like too much trouble. They clearly take care over the food and hospitality. I’ll be back and would recommend it to anyone visiting Ripon.

We dropped in yesterday without booking, hoping to get lunch for two and our dog. The staff greeted us straight away, and luckily a no-show meant we got a table in the dog-friendly area. The food was excellent, made with good ingredients and cooked simply but just right, with plenty of seasoning and flavour. My gammon chop on the bone was delicious, with a runny-yolked egg and perfect chips. It was one of the best pub lunches I’ve had in a long time. Service stayed friendly and professional throughout. Well done to the Kitchen and Front of House teams. We’ll be back soon!

The bedrooms are large, and the service was friendly. Breakfast was nice, especially the granola, and the bar was okay. It’s very well placed near the cathedral and market place. There may be parking around the back, though there are lots of no-parking signs. The public parking near Sainsbury's was good value by UK standards at £2.90 for the day. The toilet flush had a problem, but I was assured it would be fixed straight away. They could also use coasters or beer mats on the nicely varnished bedside cabinets.

We hadn’t booked and arrived at a busy time, but the staff were fantastic and found a table for me and my girlfriend. We came spontaneously for Sunday lunch, and both meals were great. I had the lamb, she had the chicken, and we left thoroughly satisfied. I’d definitely recommend it.

First time visiting, we popped in for tea last night. The food was stunning, service perfect, and the atmosphere was calm, relaxed and happy, just what we needed. We ate here but didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t comment on the rooms.
