❤️ I love that this building has been here for 500 years, still standing and sheltering people. That’s something to treasure. It’s such a cosy, wholesome place, and Donna, who looks after breakfast and the rooms, was kind and open-hearted and took great care of us. We were really pleased with the table they’d set for us and with our dinner. The welcome was so gracious that they showed us to our rooms instead of leaving us to find them ourselves. That was a lovely touch. ❤️

The main dishes were really nice and saved the meal, and the decor was well done. The food was delicious, though the olives were ice cold. Service could have been better: the waitress initially ignored us when we arrived, then forgot the water and to pour the wine. The music was also too high energy.

We had a delicious meal, and everything came promptly. The service was delightful and nothing seemed too much trouble. It’s a great pub with a good menu, and it’s handy that we could park right opposite. It’s also great if you have a dog. I’d had a service problem on an earlier visit, but I’m glad we gave it another try. I’ve been before, and this time the food was absolutely delicious.

The chips were excellent, and the fish and melted camembert were good too. We really enjoyed our lunchtime meal. The food was very good and deserves more positive reviews.

We were there for four nights with our dog. The location is convenient and close to public parking, though that costs £9.90 a day. Inside, the pub was quiet with few customers and no atmosphere. There were only three real ales on draught, including two obscure brews and Doom Bar. I ordered a pint of Doom Bar but returned it because it was pretty awful. I suspect the low turnover may be a factor. Our evening meals were okay, though expensive for what they were. At check-in, the staff seemed unhelpful and disinterested. Even though we’d paid in advance, I felt insulted when they asked for my card details in case we damaged the room. Our room was on the top floor of the three-storey building. It was tiny, with a bed and tea and coffee facilities, but no space for a wardrobe or chair. The ensuite was barely adequate, really just a cupboard about 5 by 8 feet, with mould around the shower and a toilet that didn’t flush well. The small room had poor ventilation, and the window only opened a couple of inches. I wouldn’t stay again. It wasn’t good value.
