Gara Rock

The bedroom is beautiful, and the staff are exceptional. Breakfast and pizza were the best I've ever had. But the price is just too much for me, even though I don't mind paying for a good stay. I booked through Secret Escapes; otherwise I wouldn't have paid the asking price. The lift has been out of order for a long time, and so were the jacuzzi, steam room and spa showers. That doesn't bode well.

We loved sitting on our balcony each morning, looking out to sea and watching the local sheepdog round up the cows in the fields. Coastal views seemed to be everywhere, including from our room and the restaurant, where the food was incredible and there were daily specials with locally caught fish. The beach was peaceful and gorgeous. Even I managed the hill down and back up, just a little slower than my husband. We'd been hoping to stay for ages, and our babymoon and wedding anniversary trip exceeded every expectation. The staff were so friendly and clearly wanted us to have a relaxing time. Reception always greeted us warmly, the restaurant team were smiley and accommodating, especially the Kiwis, and spa therapists Matt & Sophie gave us the dreamiest massage and facial. We also loved the thoughtful extras, including a pregnancy pillow option, the private cinema and the hotel arrival tour. A perfect 10/10 trip, and they made us feel welcome while pregnant.

I had a great stay and would happily come back. The hotel has all the amenities you'd expect from a top hotel, despite being tucked away in a remote spot. Salcombe is only a ferry ride away if you fancy a city visit. The secluded beach is a straightforward hike down the cliff, though the last bit may be difficult for anyone with limited mobility. Getting to the hotel takes quite a drive, but the quiet location is a real plus if you want a less busy holiday.

We really enjoyed the mini cinema, it made my husband's 60th birthday. The accommodation was stunning, and the restaurant had fab views. Great pool and jacuzzi too. Room service was excellent, and we had pizza and fish and chips.
