The Westleton Crown

A real highlight was being close to the heritage coast. Even off season, we enjoyed trips to and walks around Southwold, Dunwich, Aldeburgh, and Snape. It's a lovely part of the world and a welcome break from the busyness of daily life. We came back because we liked the Westleton Crown so much three years ago, and enjoyed our two nights there again. It's a charming village pub with comfortable rooms and everything on site for a relaxing stay: a welcoming bar with a fire and games, an atmospheric large dining room, and a comfortable bedroom. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent, and the staff were kind and attentive, with first-class service. Thanks again.

We had a lovely break with our Sandy Paws stay. The room in the main building was really good, though we'd have preferred a ground-floor room with easier access outside for the pooch. Friendly staff, a lovely atmosphere, and good food and drink made for a great night away.

Breakfast was good, with a nice range of cereals and juices, and the full English was great. The lady serving us was pleasant. We were staying for my wife's birthday, which I'd put on the booking form and confirmed in a follow-up email during the week, but the staff didn't mention it. A little note from management in the room or a greeting at check-in would've made the stay feel more special. The bedroom was adequate and check-in was efficient once someone returned to the desk. They were pleasant and professional, showed us to the room, and we had to wait a while for them to come back. Some lights in the hall, on the landing, and in the lower bedroom flickered or went out completely before flickering back on. We mentioned it at check-out and used the side lights instead, which was fine. Upstairs, there were cobwebs on the ceiling, the bath plug was too small and drained if knocked, and the wall up the staircase had been painted a darker shade. These were a few things that could be better, but they didn't affect our stay. Satisfactory overall, with some improvements that would've made it even better.

It's a clean, accommodating place to stay, with a lovely atmosphere, great food, and friendly, professional staff. The service charge for using the bar stopped me giving it five stars. I expected one in the restaurant, but not in the bar areas.
