We went in for a family meal and didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t comment on the rooms. The eating and pub areas had a nice atmosphere, the staff were helpful and friendly, and the food was excellent value. We had a lovely time. I know from some reviews it may not suit everyone, but it was just right for us and we’ll definitely return. There also seemed to be a good children’s area in the family section, though we didn’t use it.

Good value for a one-night stay and the room was really comfortable. We had a drink in the attached pub, where the staff were friendly and helpful. We didn’t try the food, though it looked nice.

The food and service didn’t make the price feel worthwhile. Sunday’s carvery wasn’t great, and breakfast varied depending on who was working. One morning we got coffee in a pot, the next it was very strong in a cup. We had two pieces of toast one day and three the day before, and some of the food was hot while other things were cold. The room had mould by the shower, and the toilet seat was very uncomfortable. Its attempt at a modern look felt wrong for a Yorkshire village, more like a European city centre. The location itself was good, but there are plenty of nearby places to stay. Service was pretty terrible, honestly. Several staff seemed unable to make eye contact or speak to us, and one ran off after we asked about checking in, saying, “I can’t do that!” I wouldn’t stay again or recommend it for the price.

Mayfield Seamer has lovely staff, a spotlessly clean setting and delicious food, so I’m very happy with what’s on offer. The play area is a chance for both children and adults to have fun. I don’t understand why some families sit there if children playing and getting excited in the play area bothers them.

I’d recommend booking, even though they do accept walk-ins, because it gets very busy and you don’t want to miss out. Prices are reasonable, too. The carvery was probably the nicest I’ve had. The meat was tender and juicy, and there was a great range of fresh, hot, tasty trimmings. It wasn’t just boiled vegetables left under a heat lamp. The food was well prepared and seasoned, with friendly service and a lively atmosphere. Even the self-serve food was better than I expected, more like something from a plated gastro pub.
