The staff looked after me so well during my overnight stay for Marjies wake. My room was small, but had everything I needed for one night, plus a few thoughtful extras. I’m sure they’d have helped with anything else I asked for. A big thank you from me and my brother to everyone. It was lovely bumping into Chris and Jo at their favourite takeaway, and there’s something waiting for you next time you go there. Bless you all.

We loved the atmosphere from the mid-century decor, so please don’t change it. The dessert was lovely, too. The lounge service was attentive, and the staff were friendly, helpful and smart. The room was adequate for the price, which was exceptional value for money and why I gave five stars. The food menu could use some thought, especially as food isn’t served after 7pm. Local traditional favourites that suit the cooks’ capabilities would work better. My risotto was like wallpaper paste and the chicken breast was enormous, almost off-putting. There were eight of us and not many of us had good things to say about the food.

The communal areas were pleasant, and the pool was nice, though the jacuzzi wasn’t warm enough to enjoy. The changing rooms were tired and absolutely freezing. The bar music was awful, dated easy listening to match the decor. Our twin room, room 15, was compact, with just 20 cm between the beds. It was dated but generally clean, the furniture was on its last legs, and the radiators weren’t on enough to warm the room. The biggest problem was the connecting door to the next room. It was locked, but the two men next door talked loudly until 3am, and there was no soundproofing. No one was at reception to ask them to quiet down. My young son and I barely slept, and we could hear snoring too. There was no hot water in the taps or shower in room 15 in the morning. I told reception, but got no apology for the noise or the lack of water. They did give me another room to shower in, which solved the problem but was inconvenient. Breakfast was adequate, nothing special. The vegetarian food was poor. Most of the staff seemed like they didn’t care. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, and it definitely wasn’t value for money. One star out of five feels generous.

On my third visit to Park Manor Hotel, I had a second-floor room looking out at both the castle and the sea. Peasholm Park is right across the road, and you can walk through it to reach the seafront in about five minutes. There’s plenty to do at the hotel if the weather turns bad: a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, games room, food in the lounge for most of the day, and dinner in the dining room in the evening. It never disappoints, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

We came to Scarborough for a charity event and a friend recommended the hotel. The reception staff were great, and our room was nicely presented. We slept really well, and breakfast was to die for. We had a go in the games room, but I’d forgotten my swimming costume, so no pool for me, which was a shame.
