The owners have a lovely, very placid dog called Benji. We only saw him when we got back in the evening. This is a nice, quiet hotel with friendly staff, and the rooms were spotless and peaceful. It took us 25 to 30 minutes to walk into town, though we walk everywhere. Breakfast was good, with cooked food and a wide range of cereals. Sugar-free cereal or fruit as another option might be worth considering.

The location is handy, opposite a park where you can feed the squirrels by hand, and just a five-minute walk from North Bay. Parking on the property was a bonus. We arrived with a twin room booked and were offered a larger room at the front. Everything was absolutely spotless, with tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room and shampoo and other toiletries in the bathroom. Breakfast was amazing, with lots of choice, and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you both for a lovely stay. We’ll be back. Lynda & Bryan.

We booked The Russell because we had tickets for The Open Air Theatre and could park outside the hotel. It’s in an excellent spot, just a five-minute walk from the theatre. The rooms were very clean, service was great, breakfast this morning was lovely, and the staff were friendly. We’d certainly book again.

The family-run feel comes through in the warm atmosphere and all the little details. I felt welcome and well looked after from arrival, and I’d happily return to the Russel Hotel. Parking was easy, the WiFi was fast and reliable, and my spacious double room was very comfortable. The modern en suite added convenience and privacy. A fantastic stay, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Scarborough.

Denise was a fantastic host and made a wonderful breakfast. There’s a separate lounge area with a bar, and the main lounge is really comfortable, with lovely big sofas, a large TV with all your favourite channels, and board games under the coffee table. Our room was spotless and nicely decorated, with a lovely view of Peasholm park, a large en suite shower and an extremely comfortable bed. The hotel is absolutely lovely, with wonderful decor throughout. A real gem, you wouldn’t be disappointed. Thank you for a wonderful stay, Denise. Regards, Derrick and Carol Annandale, and my sister Julie Hanwell.
