The family room was on the small side, but it worked for us. We ate in because we were tired, and the food was as expected and didn't disappoint. Breakfast was good too. Anthony and the evening staff were really accommodating. Delays meant we were late getting to Sheffield, and they were very helpful with local information.

The hotel feels a little dated, and the decor could use a refresh. Still, the rooms were comfortable, clean, and tidy, and breakfast turned out to be very good, with plenty to choose from. On my first morning of a work trip, a new staff member didn't realise breakfast was included, so I missed it. A senior staff member later acknowledged the mistake and apologised, which I appreciated. I stayed for the rest of the week and had breakfast on my final morning. A decent business stay, especially given how they handled the mistake.

Antony even remembered what drinks my colleague and I had the night before, and I noticed he was just as professional and friendly with other guests. The next day, when we'd moved to Premier Inn Sheffield Meadowhall, he recognised us at reception and welcomed us again. Later, I reported a bathroom fan that wouldn't switch off. I couldn't have slept with the noise, but Antony took charge and fixed it straight away. We first met him at Premier Inn Sheffield Arena, where he was covering the evening for Premier Inn Sheffield Meadowhall. My colleague and I reached the restaurant just as service was ending, and Antony made sure the kitchen stayed open so we could eat. He was warm and professional throughout, and his care for guests really stood out. He's a credit to Premier Inns. Thank you, Antony.

The room had a sewage smell when I arrived, probably from a sink that was blocked or draining slowly. Once that smell cleared, the room stank of cigarette smoke. The carpet and chair were stained, there was dirt and fluff on the floor, and plaster was coming away from a crack in the corner wall. In the car park I saw three rats running around and two dead ones. That sums it up. Premier Inns are usually a safe bet, but not this one. It's well located and has free parking on site, and that's about all I can say for it.

Meadowhall shopping centre is virtually across the road, and there's ample parking. If you need a taxi, press the button at reception. One arrived very quickly, and they gave us the car description and registration. The drivers were friendly, though I can't remember the firm's name. We were here for two nights to watch the European ice skating championships with my daughter at the nearby Utilita arena. I've stayed at many Premier Inns for work, but this was a family trip. The staff were warm and especially helpful to my daughter, who has anxiety. Our family room was clean, with tea, coffee, an iron, ironing board, and hair dryer. Food and service were fine, and vegetarian options at mealtimes were no problem. The dining area was clean but a bit cramped. The toaster could be quicker. It was busy, yet we hardly saw anyone and the nights were quiet.
