Best meal I’ve had in ages. The staff are friendly and really accommodating, and they’ve made the most of the space available. I stay away a lot for work, and the view from the balcony room lets you forget about the town right outside. I’d happily have paid more for both the room and the food.

The building looks stunning from outside and there’s a good choice of beers. Inside, though, the decor and bathroom feel dated and due for a refresh. It was generally clean, but the bathroom floor looked dirty when I visited. The food looked appealing, but was greasy and bland. Onion rings were oily and a bit undercooked; the Garrison Burger was overcooked, unseasoned, and very greasy, with chorizo burnt to a crisp but still served. The bun was dry and chewy, like it was stale, and the coleslaw was chewy too, as if it had been sitting around. The portion was generous, but I’d take quality over quantity. Since the burger is named after the venue, I expected better. It cost £14.50. The old till meant my refund was paid in cash and I had to wait around.

We arrived at 1230pm to be told there was only one portion of soup left, which must have disappointed the roughly 20 diners who came in after us. The kitchen also said it couldn’t make a side of onion rings. I could have made the food better at home for half the price. I used to eat here often, but after Sunday’s experience, never again.

Manas, Jobbish, and Salley were brilliant behind the bar. Really loved having them there, cheers to all three! 👍😁

Friendly team and great food. Service was quick, and the staff kept checking that we had everything. I’d recommend it.
