Holiday Inn London Shepperton

Dinner was tasty, and Melroy helped us sort out a couple of things that came up. The hotel itself looked lovely, with lakes all around, and the service was a big part of what made our stay so good. Waleed at reception was especially kind: after I couldn’t sleep the first night, he moved me to a room without noisy neighbours and warmed some milk, then brought it up to my room. Thanks, Waleed, you really brightened my day. One thing that disappointed us was the no-cash policy. We always pay in cash because it feels like a way to keep our freedom. We worry that if more businesses stop accepting it, the tax man will be able to see and control every penny we spend, and people will wish they could use cash again. We’re looking forward to another visit, but only while cash is accepted.

The staff made this clean, professional hotel a pleasant place to stop. They were warm and welcoming even while working over Christmas, and when I left my jacket in the bar, they kept it safe and returned it. The bar itself was nice, and breakfast was good, though check whether it’s included: I booked two rooms and only one came with breakfast. The rooms were very basic in function. I paid for one premium and one standard, but apart from a fridge and a tiny bit more space, I couldn’t see a real difference. I wouldn’t pay to upgrade. The shower also left water everywhere each time. My Christmas stay cost an extremely high amount for this kind of hotel, and even the staff said the prices surprised them.

The restaurant staff took great care to give our son gluten-free food without cross contamination, which was so reassuring. We also had a lovely few hours in the pool and spa, and can’t wait to come back for the kids area and cosy bar. Our room was clean and lovely, with tea, coffee and shower gels. A very attentive receptionist gave us two complimentary drink vouchers, too. It was a fabulous weekend.

We had a great stay as a family. The kids loved the swimming pool, and the rooms were good. Everyone working there was polite, helpful, and ready to assist. There’s a station nearby, so it works well as a base for London while still giving you some greenery. A really nice balance.
