The Solo No 1 Bank Chambers

The town centre location made it easy to get to bars, restaurants and shops, and there’s a lovely riverside walk just a few minutes away. This is a great little bijou hotel for a short stay. The rooms are compact but smart and functional, with an ensuite shower room and shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Tea, coffee, snacks and chilled water are provided in shared facilities on each landing. You check in and out at the Solo Bar two doors down, where the staff are welcoming and helpful. The bar also serves breakfast and evening meals. There’s no parking at the hotel, but reasonably priced public car parks are a few minutes’ walk away. We used eastgate, which cost £3.50 per day. The drawback is having to get up early to put the old-fashioned pay-and-display ticket on your dash.

The room was spacious and immaculately clean, and we really enjoyed our stay. It’s in a handy spot beside cafes, shops and restaurants. Having the communal kitchen area for the kettle and water was useful. David replied quickly and answered all our questions. We’d happily come back.

We’d happily stay again. The rooms are large, tastefully decorated and have brand new bathrooms. There’s also a shared kitchenette stocked with tea, coffee, water and snacks, and the owners were very pleasant and quick to respond. My only complaint was that the rubbish wasn’t emptied regularly. We were there with a toddler and did a lot of shopping, so we had quite a bit each day. Once we mentioned it to the owners, though, they came and emptied it.

We were pleasantly surprised by all the refreshments included at no extra cost: several kinds of tea and coffee, chilled water and beers, chocolate wafer snacks in a few flavours, and different hand-cooked crisps. There was even a rotating fan in our room that kept us cool overnight. The square, with shops, restaurants and bars, was only a two-minute walk away. The communication from start to finish was excellent, and the owners were friendly and professional. The rooms were absolutely spotless, with not a speck of dust, and the beds were top quality with fresh white cotton sheets, beautifully made. An iron and ironing board were provided, along with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. It was our first stay here, and we’ll definitely book again. We’ll recommend this beautifully furnished accommodation to family and friends and look forward to returning soon! 👍🏼🙂
