The friendly staff and convenient location were the best parts for me, and I didn’t mind paying £5 for parking given the room cost £41. But the stay fell well short of four-star standards. The room was spacious, yet very cold, and the heater they provided was filthy. Staff confirmed the room was cold but seemed reluctant to move me, even though the hotel appeared nearly empty, and offered another heater instead. The cold tap didn’t work, the shower pressure was very low, and one folded towel had short hairs on it, so I used tissue to wipe my face. I felt uneasy touching things in the room and was nervous about checking the bed, though luckily I’d brought my own pillow. I’ve thought a lot about whether to write this. I understand the hotel apparently changed hands three months ago, and hope they focus on the basics before things get worse. Hygiene, cleaning and maintenance need urgent attention; my experience felt closer to two stars. I only ate at the restaurant to get out of the cold room and warm up. The fish and chips cost £17, but the fish was overcooked and the batter hard and dark brown. Two different staff members checked three times whether everything was all right. They were genuinely polite, so I didn’t have the heart to complain. 😔

It wasn’t a bad stay, but I can’t say I’d choose to come back. The room was clean enough, though some things were worn and the finishing touches weren’t there. I’d paid for a deluxe double advertised as very large, but it was about the same size as a typical standard hotel room. The hotel presents itself as modern in some places, but the feel is more country style, with dated decor here and there. It’s pleasant enough, just not what I’d expect from the four-star standard it advertises, and not memorable.

We spent two nights here and found the room comfortable, clean and well equipped. Everything worked, and the staff were very friendly. A few things could be improved: some bathroom tiles need regrouting, the fan is noisy, and sounds carry between rooms. I’d also expect parking to be included for hotel guests. We booked before the policy changed, but having to pay extra on top of the room would be annoying. There’s no safe walking route into Burnham, either, since the winding lane is narrow and has no verges. Even with those points, we had a very satisfactory stay.

I spent three days at the Grovefield hotel for an offsite conference. The setting is wonderfully calm and peaceful, and the rooms are decent. I’m especially grateful to Mr Sachin, who went out of his way to arrange delicious vegetarian food for me. He was attentive and made sure I had a good meal. Thanks to him and the whole team, keep up the great work!

The hotel looks much better online, and I won’t stay here again. The walls let so much sound through that it feels like you’re sharing a room with the next guest, even when they’re speaking normally. Bring earplugs if you do stay. The shower pressure was pathetic, like standing under a drainpipe, and the breakfast was only okay. Real fruit juice would be better than sugary squash. Charging £5 a day for parking feels like a money grab. I’m baffled this place has a four-star rating.
