The host made me feel unsafe and deeply uncomfortable, and I left really upset. When we arrived, he opened the door but just stood there while we struggled with heavy bags in the porch. He didn’t tell us his name or invite us in, and we had to squeeze past him. After our long journey I couldn’t relax. He made us sit for ages filling in breakfast choices and having what felt like a pointless chat. He insulted my music taste because he didn’t know the artists and criticized me for being vegan. He also made misogynistic comments about liking my boyfriend, even though my boyfriend hadn’t said anything, simply because he’s a man and eats meat. Later, while I was having a heated argument with my boyfriend, the owner knocked and came up to me angrily and intimidatingly, telling me not to argue in his house but to do it on the street. He said not to speak while he was speaking and acted as though he was teaching me a lesson and I was at fault. I kept explaining that my boyfriend had started the argument and I couldn’t leave because I was changing, while he continued provoking me. The owner got in my face and was extremely rude, blamed me, and had no business getting involved. I asked to leave because I no longer wanted to stay, but he said I wouldn’t leave and would pay him, even though we’d only just entered the room. He also said we were keeping the room, as if he gets any bookings. The room was dirty and shabby. Photos show black mould in the bedroom and bathroom, and the pillow and table were covered in crumbs, though that’s hard to make out in the pictures. The wardrobe and drawers were grubby and full of belongings, leaving no clean space for my things. There were no plugs. The bedroom was very dated and the bedding worn, probably used many times. Saying it was his daughter’s old bedroom didn’t make it appealing. The kettle left limescale in my tea. There was a dead fly in the bathroom, and we weren’t allowed to use the bath with no explanation. The overhead shower didn’t work, and the shower unit moved around instead of staying in place. Breakfast made my boyfriend and me feel ill. The only options were tomato, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, and toast. I’d asked a month ahead about additions and bought my own food from the shop. He seemed surprised when I asked for vegan butter. I couldn’t drink the orange juice, which I assume was from concentrate. He doesn’t answer messages or calls. The place was conveniently close to the concert venue, but we left before the second night and paid double for somewhere farther away because I couldn’t sleep in that house.

After a very long day, we were shown straight to our room and left to settle in at our own pace. The owners were welcoming and kind without hovering. They offered us the downstairs lounge, but we were too tired and went straight to bed. The house was warm, peaceful, and nice; the room was cosy and the bed comfortable. Breakfast arrived exactly at 7:30 as requested, and it was really tasty and cooked perfectly. Thanks for a lovely stay, we’ll see you next year!

Gayton bed and breakfast is only five minutes by train from Birmingham Airport, and there’s a pub and sandwich shop nearby for meals. Our room was bright and spacious, with a comfortable bed, and the hosts were friendly. A lovely B&B and a handy airport stay if you’d rather not be at the airport or in Birmingham City.

The hosts were a lovely, friendly couple and looked after us really well throughout our one-night stay. The room was spacious and well kept, and the B&B was conveniently close to the train station for what we needed. My friend and I had a great stay and I’d absolutely recommend it.

The hosts were so helpful, even clearing snow off our car when it snowed during our visit. They gave us advice on places to go and what things cost. We got a warm, homelike welcome, and the room was spotless and warm, with a very comfortable bed. There were tea and coffee facilities, biscuits, and a sink in the room, plus plenty of sockets for charging and free Wi-Fi. The shared bathroom was spacious, warm, and spotless, with a shower and jet bath. Breakfast was included and could be tailored, from a full English to individual choices. If you skipped beans or sausages, they’d substitute extra eggs or bacon. Toast came hot with a selection of preserves, and they checked that we had enough. Fresh orange juice and tea or coffee were served too. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
