On a work trip, I stayed three nights in room 17, at the ground floor end of the main building, and really struggled to sleep. Each night around 9pm, a terrible deep, steady humming began. I could only guess it was coming from the room above, perhaps a bathroom extractor fan. It started at varying times and went on all night. I reported it to the two men at reception, but they were very dismissive and just told me to claim back the room cost instead of addressing the noise. After that I gave up. The Premier Plus rooms are upstairs on the first floor, and it felt like Premier Inn would rather keep those guests happy at the expense of people on the ground floor. Whatever was making the noise above me, the staff did nothing to help, and sleep was a real problem throughout my stay. If you need proper rest after a hard day's work, avoid room 17. Truly shocking.

I had to stay here unexpectedly for about nine nights after my husband was taken to nearby Southampton general hospital. The staff were lovely and welcoming, and when I had to extend at the last minute because I didn't know how long I'd need to stay, they rearranged things so I could keep the same room. That was very kind. Having reception open 24 hours was a big help when I came back late from hospital. The hotel is well located in a nice area. Even when the hotel was full and larger work vans were using multiple spaces, I had no trouble parking. It cost a reasonable £5 a night. The room was clean and fairly modern, and even the free WiFi worked well. I used the premium WiFi for work, which was handy. There's a Beefeater on site with pretty decent food and a big Sainsbury's a few minutes' drive away. Thanks to the friendly staff for making a hard time just a little easier.

The annex feels more up to date, while the main building and rooms are nice but starting to look tired. Some lights didn't work. The price for two rooms was good, but be warned about connectivity: 4G doesn't work in the annex, and the free WiFi is useless. A wired coat hanger might get you better reception. If you need WiFi, find another hotel, which, coincidentally, offers free ultra-fast WiFi. Hmm.

The room and service were lovely, and the visit was going well until 6:30am on Sunday, when a delivery made a huge racket. The clanging metal from the car park came right through the supposedly soundproof windows.

After my son's operation at Southampton General, the room was clean and the service was lovely. Following an eventful 24 hours, the hotel made our stay calm and relaxing. When we needed a taxi to the train station, the number by reception gave us a company quoting about £20 and a 50-minute wait. Rebecca at reception kindly called another company, which was cheaper and could come sooner. We're not from Southampton, so her help finding another option meant a lot. A big thank you to Rebecca. We'll definitely stay here again.
