Ilfracombe House Hotel

We booked for one night on the spur of the moment after my partner said she fancied fish and chips by the sea. The family room was spacious, with a double and a single bed, and both were very comfortable. It was clean, and the bathroom had what looked like a fairly new shower. Staff were warm and welcoming, and breakfast was lovely, cooked just how we liked it. Highly recommend. If we visit Southend-on-Sea again, we’ll definitely rebook.

I’ve just returned from Ilfracombe House bed and breakfast. It’s a fantastic, clean place, and the breakfast was fantastic too. The husband, wife, son, and daughters were very obliging and helpful to all the residents. I’d recommend staying here if you’re coming to Southend on sea. Thanks to Bertie, his wife Rita, the sister, and all the family. This place is great. Thanks again from Lean and john. They had a Christmas dinner with other residents, but I’d already booked elsewhere because I didn’t know they were having one. The residents enjoyed it, and they had music on New Year’s Eve.

The location was very handy for our party in Leigh on Sea, and the next morning Southend was an easy walk away. Staying here brought back childhood memories of seaside holidays. It’s a classic B&B, but the carpet looks like it hasn’t been replaced since those days. For a night costing over £100, it felt expensive for what it was. Our room was nice and the bathroom very modern, but the furniture seemed a bit cheap and the door was hard to open over the new carpet. Breakfast was okay. I liked being served instead of using a buffet, though the quality could have been better.

The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and brought to the table, not set out as a buffet. The bed was comfortable, the room clean, and there were complimentary toiletries and even a hairdryer. We got a warm, helpful welcome and good hospitality throughout our one-night stay. It’s in a quiet area, with on-street parking available. Since the nearby streets are for residents or pay and display, they kindly offered us a free parking permit. The hotel is good value, about a 10-15 minute walk from the pier. There’s a bar, though we didn’t have a drink there. A good place to stay away from the crowds and chain hotels.
