The Camelia Hotel & Restaurant

The bar was a lovely place to sit and chat with other guests, and Liam and his colleague were friendly and efficient. There’s also free parking behind the hotel, which was handy. I was there for work during a grey January, but the sea view from the large window made the weather feel less gloomy. The room was spotless, and the bathroom had clearly been updated. Breakfast had both cooked and continental choices, and the staff made me feel welcome. The Camelia Hotel was comfortable and good value, and I’d gladly recommend it as a base for Southend.

Our room had a small issue at first, but the staff dealt with it quickly and professionally. They even moved us to a superior room without us having to ask, which was a thoughtful gesture. Sara was especially lovely and helped make the weekend more enjoyable. The food was amazing, and our room was clean, comfortable, and nicely presented. My partner and I felt welcome throughout and would definitely come back for another relaxing break.

The hotel is right across from the beach, and the free off-street parking was a big plus in Southend. Everything was clean and comfortable, and the staff were really friendly. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels for work, but this was easily the best Full English I’ve had. The food was fantastic. Thoroughly recommend.

The full breakfast was delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. My double room, booked for one, looked modern and stylish, with a very comfortable bed and a great big shower. I was disappointed there weren’t any biscuits with the tea. A few things needed attention when I arrived: the bathroom light switch and extractor seemed faulty, and the fan kept running for 45 minutes after I turned the light off. The TV remote wouldn’t switch the TV off, the heated towel rail was cold, and blue oily liquid was dripping from the bottom right pipe. Everything was fixed quickly the next morning.
