The rooms are compact but comfortable and have what you need. Food is tasty, and the hotel is generally good value. Most of the staff were friendly and professional. It’s in a great location, though be ready for the hill.

A short three-minute walk around the corner gets you to the water’s edge, where you can catch the sunrise and walk to lots of great local spots. The views from the restaurant and bar are amazing, too. We found the place so welcoming, from the front desk to the restaurant wait staff. The rooms were great, with a hot shower and bathtub, and there’s quaint decor throughout.

The village is easy to reach, though the walk back is a steep climb, and the views are great. The bedroom furniture was a mix of old-fashioned and newer pieces that didn’t quite work together. All the staff were friendly, and reception were especially helpful. Dining service, particularly in the mornings, was hit and miss. It might work better if staff each looked after a section, as guests sometimes got missed and left waiting. Dinner was lovely. Be specific about how you want your breakfast cooked and it should be good.

We had no trouble with the hill up to the hotel, though it may not suit anyone with mobility issues. We’re no spring chickens, either. The only small drawbacks for us were the tiny room safe and the lack of air conditioning. A fan was provided, and we didn’t mind, since hotel air conditioning can be noisy and hard to control. The food was superb, and afternoon tea was excellent value. Breakfast included sourdough bread and other local treats like Jersey yoghurt and Jersey butter for the toast. The pool was spotless and a decent size, with plenty of loungers and parasols. The bar was pleasant, with cheerful, attentive staff. This was our first stay at the Somerville Hotel, but it definitely won’t be our last. It was spotless, relaxed and staffed by friendly people keen to make our stay enjoyable. Our room was quiet and well appointed. We were delighted with the exceptional views and staff, and you won’t be disappointed.

Ilko, the bar manager, was knowledgeable and happy to share what he knew. Nothing was too much trouble for him or his team. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, and big Richard deserves thanks too. The food was excellent, and we really enjoyed our stay. One small tip: make sure you get the money-saving app make a difference.
