The bathroom was particularly unpleasant: there was mold on the ceiling, and the tub was very high and slippery to climb into for a shower. The beds were hard and crunched whenever we moved. Our heat didn't work either, so they brought a dented space heater. My mother cut her fingers on it. I brought my 83-year-old mother here for a bucket list trip and couldn't have been more disappointed. The reviews hadn't prepared us for what we found. The building felt more like an institution than a hotel, and it's very dated and in need of maintenance. The walls were banged up, the carpets filthy, and I'd somehow missed that there was no elevator. Having my mother manage the stairs with heavy luggage and a cane was far from ideal. We were glad to leave the next day. Out of all the places we stayed during our 10-day trip, this was the worst. I wouldn't return.

The location was good and the room seemed very clean. We didn't eat there, just stayed in the hotel that's part of the complex. I hate leaving a bad review, but the room needed maintenance. Some drywall nails had popped out, leaving gaps in the wall by the bathroom, and the toilet seat was partly broken and slid around when lifted or lowered. The tub was absurdly high and slippery to step into.

The room was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. For the price, it's a convenient spot just off the highway, with a clean room. But the air conditioning was broken, and although I know these things happen, they didn't offer a fan or anything. The fryer was broken at breakfast the next morning, leaving very few options, yet we were charged full price. The bed wasn't very comfortable, the walls are thin, and all the doors slam shut.

Service was good throughout. Our dinner waitstaff were very nice, and Mr. Callum was excellent at breakfast. The room was quite comfortable too. Highly recommend.

We found Highland Gate, Stirling by Marston's Inns clean and lovely, just outside Stirling. It was easy to get into our room, and having electric car charging on site was a real plus. Reception is at a nearby pub, but that caused us no trouble.
