The Locomotion Hotel

The Guinness was the worst pint I’ve had around Eaglescliffe and Yarm. No head, and a rank taste, so I had to leave it, even though it was a new barrel. First and last time for me. It seems like a nice pub otherwise, which is a shame.

We had a lovely family evening here. The atmosphere was great, the food was cooked and presented really well, and the staff were friendly and helpful. You can eat indoors or in the garden, and children were welcome. I’d recommend it for families.

A few little things could be improved, like having a bin in the room, but I had a good one-night stay and can’t complain. It was quiet, the bed and pillows were soft, the Wi-Fi was great, and the staff were lovely. The train station is a two-minute walk away, with a One Stop shop next door and taxis at the station.

For the price, it was perfectly adequate, and I’d probably stay again. The staff are nice, which matters, though there are a few things to tweak. My tiny single room had creaky floorboards, poor lighting, a disappointing shower and a TV with a strange electric buzz. Good thing I brought earplugs. There was no way to turn off the radiator, and breakfast isn’t offered on weekdays. There’s a One Stop shop across the way if you need to grab something. Cheap and cheerful.
