We booked a night at Travelodge to break up a longer drive, and the 24 hour check-in was handy when we arrived late. The room was decent enough, and this site has “new” rooms, though the TV still looks like it’s from the 90s and is tiny. I didn’t read the breakfast small print carefully: there’s no restaurant on site, just a 6x9 cardboard box with a Pan au Chocolate, flapjack, tiny bottle of water and cornflakes in a cup with UHT milk. Luckily Greggs is a 30 second walk away. I thought I knew what to expect from a Travelodge, but I was wrong. I wouldn’t stay at this location again for that reason.

The rooms were large, clean and quiet, and the receptionists were lovely and helpful. We did have trouble getting into the hotel when we arrived at 22.05, but after calling the number displayed on the door, a lady came to let us in. The front car park was full, so we parked at the back, which looked a bit rough, though the hotel itself was fine. The only thing that made us a little uneasy was that the bedroom door had no lock on the inside.

A good value, clean and comfortable room with very friendly staff. It’s an ideal base, though there are hardly any amenities nearby apart from Greggs and Subway. The only small issue was that the bed sat too close to the wall because of the fixed headboard.

The location worked perfectly for us, close to Kidsgrove and the motorway. We also used the Greggs/Subway next door, and there’s a local steakhouse about a 10-minute walk or 2-minute drive away. We stayed overnight this week. The room was clean and had plenty of towels and extra pillows, and the bed and bedding were really comfortable. Staff were friendly, and free parking was a bonus. We’d happily book again.

I ended up staying here for around seven weeks, thanks to the receptionist who helped me make the booking. I was stuck when I found out I couldn’t just book in as usual, and explained that I couldn’t book online because I have dyslexia. She kindly let me use her phone to arrange the stay and was so helpful throughout. I don’t know her name, but I checked out at 7:30 on February 7, so hopefully you can identify her. She really went out of her way, beyond her receptionist duties. I had a good experience and will come back, and recommend the hotel to friends and family.
