The staff were faultless, from housekeeping and the chef to the bar and reception teams. Everyone was welcoming, friendly and helpful. It’s the best Holiday Inn we’ve stayed in. We came for two nights to see Sunderland play, booked two rooms, and found the location ideal, about an 8 minute walk from the stadium. The hotel is smart and modern, with clean, comfortable rooms, good beds and an okay choice of pillows. There’s a TV, and the clean bathroom was very usable. The room temperature was good, and we didn’t need to adjust the thermostat. The shower was very warm at night but a bit cooler in the morning. Breakfast was the usual Holiday Inn offering, tasty and with choices. The reason I’ve held back a star is the noise from Keel Tavern below our rooms. We were right above it and could clearly hear the music thumping until midnight on both nights. We slept okay the first night because we were exhausted, but noticed it more the second. If a good night’s sleep matters, I’d ask for a room away from the bar.

Staff made our stay, they were all fantastic, friendly and so helpful. A lady, whose name I think was Eden, even put together a lovely breakfast bag for us since we didn’t have time to sit down and eat. My husband and I found the room comfortable and enjoyed sitting in the reception area. The location was brilliant for the stadium and an easy walk from the station. Thanks for a great visit!

I’m not usually fussy about hotels. A quiet, clean room and a decent bed for the night are normally enough, but this stopover in Sunderland before heading to London the next day gave me more than I expected. The room was spacious and modern, with all the amenities you could ask for and a decent view. It was spotless, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom had a great shower. Check-in and check-out were easy, and the staff were friendly. I usually skip buffet breakfasts, but I’m glad I tried this one. It was delicious and had plenty of options for most people. The stay didn’t cost much, and I felt I got very good value. I’d definitely recommend it for at least a short stay. 😁

We stopped here on a coach trip from Scotland to London, and it was a fantastic place to stay. The beds were so comfortable, the meal and breakfast were great, and the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. We loved the waves goodbye as we left.

The staff were friendly, and breakfast was very good. We enjoyed New Year's Eve 2025 at the Holiday Inn, right beside the large venue where the big New Year party was held. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, very clean and well soundproofed. 😃
